The Bombay Ballad: A Nautical Series, and an Invitation to the Pier
There is a stretch of Bombay where the city stops pretending it is anything but a port. Where the buildings of Ballard Estate stand shoulder to shoulder in warm stone, their arches and cornices facing the water the way they have for a hundred years, and the sea air carries the memory of every ship that ever docked here. This monsoon, that is exactly where you will find us.
Bombay Gothic has come to PierPop, the waterfront festival on The Ballard Pier in South Mumbai — and we would love for you to come too.
Where the city meets the sea
PierPop has taken over the pier for the season — a monsoon celebration of fashion, home, accessories, food, a craft flower shop and a special gallery of art, all by the water. Our home within it is the Nauti Baro Market, the discovery-led market curated by Srila Chaterjee of Baro, gathering makers from more than twenty-five cities across the country. It is exactly the kind of company we like to keep, and exactly the kind of afternoon we hope you will give yourself: slow, curious, and spent among beautiful things.
Come with family, come with friends, come alone with an umbrella and an appetite. The pier is at its best in the rains.
Introducing The Bombay Ballad
We could not think of a better place to unveil our newest work than the very neighbourhood that inspired it. The Bombay Ballad is our new nautical design series — a set of pieces born from the heritage buildings that ring Ballard Pier and from the wider maritime story of the city. The gatehouse at Ballard Bunder, the corner turret of the old Grand Hotel, the lighthouse and the tall ships riding the harbour swell: these are the notes of the ballad, drawn in our signature line and set against sea-glass blues and harbour reds.
Like everything we make, the series begins with real architecture and real observation — the line of a colonnade, the weight of a keystone, the rhythm of shuttered windows along a wet street — and translates it into objects you can live with. It is Bombay, sung in a lower, saltier key.
The Bombay Ballad is exclusive to the venue. For now, these pieces live only at the pier — you will not find them online. If you want to hold them, it has to be in person, and it has to be here.
From the pier — a little gallery
A few glimpses from the stall: the series out in the monsoon, and the pieces themselves.
